Senator Byron Dorgan Comments on Republican Plans to Repeal the Affordable Care Act on MSNBC

Former Senator and Arent Fox Senior Policy Advisor Byron Dorgan spoke with MSNBC correspondent Kate Snow on Republican plans to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

President-elect Trump made recent statements on providing “health insurance for everyone” as Congressional Republicans begin to repeal the law. Dorgan noted that you cannot have a health care plan that eliminates pre-existing conditions, coverage up to age 26, and eliminates lifetime limits without mandating coverage across the board. There are 20 to 30 million people at risk of losing their health insurance if the Republicans repeal the ACA. Incoming White House press secretary Sean Spicer made a statement in defense of Trump’s plans to replace the ACA through “marketplace solutions, competition, bringing cost down, negotiating with pharmaceutical companies, and increasing access and options for care.” In response to these remarks, Dorgan said this does not include any details and that it would be “far better for Republicans to say let’s fix the things that are wrong” with the ACA. “We need to find a way to make it work for all Americans,” said Dorgan.
