Chambers Global Rates Four Arent Fox Practices Among Best in the World

Washington, DC — Chambers Global: The World’s Leading Lawyers for Business has recognized Arent Fox’s Bankruptcy & Financial Restructuring, Intellectual Property, International Arbitration & Dispute Resolution, and International Trade practices in its annual worldwide rankings of top law firms.

The Bankruptcy & Financial Restructuring practice is led by New York Managing Partner Andrew I. Silfen and was recognized in part for its work successfully advising the official committee of unsecured creditors in Cengage Learning, Inc. on the year’s largest Chapter 11 bankruptcy and counseling Ambac Assurance in the massive $17 billion Chapter 9 bankruptcy of Detroit. The group handles financial and corporate restructurings and recapitalizations, bankruptcy litigation, and distressed asset and corporate acquisitions for companies in a variety of industries throughout the country.

Chambers Global lauded the firm’s Intellectual Property practice for its world class trademark work. As one of the few “go-to” firms for novel and high-profile intellectual property issues across the entertainment, fashion, food, media, and technology industries, Arent Fox has more than 100 full-time IP professionals counseling clients on a range of copyright, patent, and trademark matters. Partner Anthony V. Lupo was named a leading lawyer by Chambers Global for being “one of the country’s leading trade mark and copyright lawyers, particularly well known for his representations of leading media and fashion brands.”

Arent Fox’s International Arbitration & Dispute Resolution practice was honored for its work representing the Government of Timor-Leste in a number of domestic lawsuits and international arbitration proceedings as the country seeks to ensure that oil and gas production in its territory is conducted in full compliance with its laws and regulations. The litigation stems from a multinational corporation’s exploration and production of natural gas fields in the South Timor Sea and is one of the largest international arbitrations currently pending. The work is led by partner Pierre-Richard Prosper and includes partners Timothy J. Feighery and Lee M. Caplan.

The firm’s International Trade practice represents and advises domestic and foreign companies and government entities in a broad range of cross-border matters, including customs/import compliance, global trade policy, international trade litigation, international anti-corruption, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and export controls and sanctions. Three attorneys were singled out by Chambers Global as leading lawyers: Managing Partner Matthew J. Clark, who is a “noted anti-dumping practitioner”; practice leader Matthew Nolan, “recognized for his experience of advising on contentious trade matters”; and partner Kay C. Georgi, who clients praise for “her strategic intelligence and insightful approach to government relations.”

The Chambers Global ratings span the legal markets of more than 180 countries and are based on extensive interviews of clients and attorneys.
