GM to Halt Production at Several North American Plants Due to Chip Shortage
GM joins Ford and Toyota in hitting the pause button on production.
GM announced that it is stopping production at several of its North American factories in Tennessee and Michigan and will extend shutdowns at other factories due to the continued shortage of semiconductor chips, which is impacting the entire auto industry. Production fallout has worsened in the US in recent weeks for most brands, including Ford and Toyota. Previously, GM idled production at its factories in Kansas City and Orlando.
