Health Care Partner and Practice Leader Douglas Grimm gave two presentations on June 9th at The Center for Telehealth and e-Health Law's 2022 Digital Law Summit. He is a member of CTeL’s DC legal resource team.

The first session was titled “Telehealth and the No Surprises Act.” Carol Yarborough, Operations Manager for the Telehealth Resource Center at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center, joined Douglas for the session. Together they explored and discussed the effect of the federal and state telehealth waivers, payment for the provision of telehealth services during a patient emergency, as well as the multiple requirements imposed upon telehealth providers when providing non-emergent services to out-of-network patients.

The second session was titled “Telehealth and Facility Fees.” Tonia Burke, System Director- Virtual Health and Telemedicine for Bon Secours Mercy Health, joined Douglas for the session. Together they discussed the multiple issues associated with the billing of facility fees by institutional providers for telehealth services when the patient is not physically present in the facility. Among several issues, the discussion primarily focused on billing and reimbursement by Medicare and commercial payors for those services and the overall future of telemedicine facility fees.
