Patrick is a registered patent attorney with a background in electrical engineering. His practice focuses on patent prosecution and IP counseling for high-tech companies. He also provides patent non-infringement and freedom-to-operate legal opinions and represents clients in patent litigation and IPR proceedings.
Patrick helps with the preparation and prosecution of domestic and international patent applications in a wide range of technologies, including consumer electronics, mobile devices, computer software, computer hardware, networking, distributed systems, AR/VR, artificial intelligence, cloud-computing software-defined storage, and wireless communication technologies for major telecommunications and technology companies. His practice also includes rendering non-infringement, patent validity, and freedom-to-operate opinions of counsel.
Patrick also represents and counsels clients in all aspects of patent litigation, including domestic and international patent protection, enforcement, and monetization of patent portfolios. He has litigation experience before the United States District Court for the Southern District of California, United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Inter Partes Review (IPR), and before the International Trade Commission (ITC).
Prior to joining ArentFox Schiff, Patrick was an IP associate at an international law firm and a patent litigation associate at other national law firms, including Schiff Hardin LLP.

- In the Matter of Certain Products Containing Interactive Program Guide and Parent Control Technology (Inv. No. 337-TA-845 and 337-TA-820) — Represented Rovi Corporation and related subsidiaries in an ITC investigation against Netflix Inc., Vizio, Inc., LG Electronics, Mitsubishi Electric Corp., and Roku, Inc. relating to program guides and parental controls and in related district court proceedings.
- IPDEV Co. v. Ameranth, Inc., Civil Action No. 14-cv-01303 (S.D. Cal. 2017). Represented plaintiff/senior party in district court interference action involving patents relating to online ordering systems.
- Ameranth, LLC. v. QuikOrder, Inc., Civil Action No. 11-cv-01810 (S.D. Cal. 2011). Represented two defendants in consolidated patent infringement actions (30+ total) relating to online ordering systems.
- Uniloc USA, Inc. and Uniloc Luxembourg S.A. v. Allscripts Healthcare Solutions, Inc., Civil Action No. 6:14-cv-00631 (E.D. Tex. 2014). Represented Allscripts Healthcare Solutions in a patent infringement action involving methods for organizing, recording and displaying medical patient care information.
- ComplementSoft, LLC v. SAS Institute, Inc., Case No. 1:12-cv-07372 (N.D. Ill. 2012). Represented ComplementSoft in a patent infringement action involving a system and method for generating, modifying and maintaining software source code through a graphical user interface software development tool.
