Richard Brand Listed Among Daily Journal’s Top 100 Lawyers for Second Year
ArentFox Schiff LLP is pleased to announce that San Francisco Managing Partner, lead West Coast Real Estate Partner, and Chair of the Sports Group Richard Brand has been named among Daily Journal’s “Top 100 Lawyers” for his impact on the legal profession over the past year.
Rich was previously recognized in 2017.
Rich is a go-to advisor for naming rights agreements, media rights agreements, real estate and hospitality agreements, and other sports and corporate transactions. He has been recognized as a leading sports attorney by Chambers USA, and SportsBusiness Journal, and as a two time Sports Business Journal Power Player, one of the top 11 “Leading Lawyers” in the US in sports by Legal 500, and as a leading real estate attorney by Best Lawyers and Legal 500. Best Lawyers has also recognized Rich as a “Lawyer of the Year” for his high-profile sports work and the Sports Practice Group has been named as a Sports Practice Group of the Year.
Rich’s profile in the Daily Journal describes how he entered into sports law.
“When I first started at ArentFox Schiff, I didn’t even know the firm had sports practice,” he said. “But I worked with David Osnos, ones of the firm’s preeminent partners (and my main mentor) on a major real estate transaction and once it was completed, he asked me to work on a new arena for his client Abe Pollin, who owned the Washington Bullets (now the Washington Wizards) and the Washington Capitals.”
Rich soon expanded his practice into an expansive multi-faceted sports practice and has represented over 25 teams and sports facilities in virtually every area of transactional sports.
His profile also discussed some of his recent work he feels most proud of.
“I have had the pleasure of leading the ArentFox Schiff team in working through most, if not all of the suite licensing, sponsorship, naming rights and related transactions in connection with the opening and operation of the iconic SoFi Stadium, which is the home of the Los Angeles Rams and the Los Angeles Chargers.”
Rich played a similar role for San Diego State University in connection with the sponsorship, naming rights, and related transactions for the recently opened Snapdragon Stadium.
Rich said the work gave the Sports team “the opportunity to play a large and continuous role for major projects rather than representation of a client on a one-off basis. Where most deals last two or three months, these deals lasted for years, which enables you to develop deep and lasting relationships with the clients.”
Daily Journal’s annual ranking lists attorneys throughout California who have made a difference to their clients, their firms, and their profession.
