ArentFox Schiff and Vance Center Launch Comprehensive Guide on LGBTQ Rights in Venezuela
ArentFox Schiff and the Cyrus R. Vance Center for International Justice are proud to announce the publication of the “Guide on International & Regional Standards for LGBTQ Rights Applicable to Venezuela,” which aims to empower activists, guide policymakers, and support LGBTQ rights.
The AFS team includes Hunter T. Carter, Maya S. Cohen, Mario A. Torrico, Helenka B. Mietka, and Gamin Kim. You can download the guide here.
The guide, organized into four sections, offers a comprehensive understanding of LGBTQ rights in Venezuela and identifies opportunities for human rights advocacy. The sections include:
- Section I: Provides an overview of the legal status of LGBTQ rights in Venezuela, highlighting challenges and progress.
- Section II: Examines relevant international legal instruments that Venezuela has ratified or is considering for future ratification to protect LGBTQ rights.
- Section III: Explains the international human rights mechanisms to protect LGBTQ rights in Venezuela.
- Section IV: Outlines actions that Venezuela should take to protect LGBTQ persons in the future.
With countries like Venezuela facing challenges and potential avenues for safeguarding these rights, the guide aims to foster a more inclusive society where LGBTQ individuals are fully recognized and protected.
