Arent Fox Announces 2022 Promotions to Partner

Anne-Carmene Almonord
Anne-Carmene represents clients on real estate transactions, primarily GSE financing of multifamily housing and manufactured housing. Anne-Carmene also advises on workouts, title matters, and property management concerns. Previously a project finance lawyer, she has experience with cross-border matters. Anne-Carmene is also the Co-Chair of the Arent Fox Minority Attorney Group. She obtained her Juris Doctor from Columbia Law School and her BA from Harvard University.
Matthew Berlin
Matt counsels clients in a variety of corporate and commercial transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, venture capital, joint ventures, and technology transactions. He obtained his Juris Doctor from American University, Washington College of Law and his BA from Tufts University.
Alexander S. Birkhold
Alexander counsels clients on global ethics and compliance strategies, cross-border investigations, and white collar prosecutions. He routinely advises and supports international organizations to develop and implement anti-corruption compliance programs. Alexander previously chaired the firm’s LGBTQ+ organization and served as a law clerk to the Honorable Percy Anderson of the US District Court, Central District of California. He obtained his Juris Doctor from New York University School and his BA from Tufts University.
Gary A. Coad
Gary focuses on patent and intellectual property litigation and dispute resolution, including district court litigation and investigations before the International Trade Commission. His practice also includes counseling clients on intellectual property issues in non-litigation situations. He obtained his Juris Doctor from UNH Franklin Pierce School of Law and his BS from Mercyhurst University.
Michele L. Gipp
Michele counsels clients in the long term care and senior living industries on transactional matters, including development projects, acquisitions, and the structuring of joint venture, lease, and management arrangements. Michele also advises health care providers regarding regulatory and corporate compliance. She obtained her Juris Doctor from Fordham University School of Law and her BA from the University of Delaware.
Justin A. Kesselman
Justin has extensive experience handling business bankruptcies, financial restructurings, out-of-court insolvency strategies, and commercial litigation. His practices focuses on the representation of trustees, unsecured creditor committees, secured lenders, trade creditors, debtors, and assignees in a wide range of distressed situations, including complex reorganizations, liquidations, assignments for the benefit of creditors, and bankruptcy litigation. Justin previously served as a law clerk to the Honorable Robert J. Cordy of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court.
Annie Chang Lee
Annie advises hospitals and its medical staffs, health systems, medical groups, and health plans with an emphasis on quality and regulatory matters. She was a law clerk at both the US Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of California and the US Department of State in Washington, DC. She obtained her Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego School of Law and her BA from the University of California, Irvine.
Jeffrey A. Mitchell
Jeffrey has substantial experience in financing, acquisitions and dispositions, leasing, restructuring and workouts, joint ventures, and public-private partnerships and development. He obtained his Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law and his BA from Northwestern University.
Travis L. Mullaney
Travis helps government contractors navigate the federal procurement landscape and solve the complex problems they face on a regular basis. He has over 10 years of experience assisting clients with a broad spectrum of matters arising throughout the government contracts lifecycle, including negotiating agreements, pursuing and defending bid protests, investigating and advising on compliance issues, litigating contract claims and disputes, and conducting due diligence for corporate mergers and acquisition (M&A) and other transactions. Travis regularly advises clients in matters that involve national security concerns. He obtained his Juris Doctor from Wake Forest University School of Law and his BA from University of Virginia.
Alex Osterlind
Alex’s practice primarily focuses on all IP-related matters, including patent preparation and prosecution, IP portfolio management, and IP litigation. He is especially experienced with standard essential patents, and specifically those directed to 5G and LTE under 3GPP and Wi-Fi under IEEE, as well as 3D printing/additive manufacturing, neural networks and machine learning, and processor and circuit configurations. Alex received his Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri School of Law, where he served as Senior Note and Comment Editor for the Missouri Law Review, and his BS from the University of Missouri College of Engineering.
Berin S. Romagnolo
Berin leads our business immigration practice and advises employers on all aspects of employing foreign nationals, including obtaining work visas and green cards and I-9 and e-verify compliance. She also assists employers with employment law needs, such as drafting policies, analyzing compensation issues, handling discrimination and harassment claims, and advising on termination strategy. She obtained her Juris Doctor from Syracuse University College of Law and her BA from Trinity College.
Alexandra M. Romero
Alexandra focuses her practice on representing employers in all aspects of the Occupational Safety and Health Act and state and federal employment laws. She obtained her Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law and her BA from Middlebury College.
Michael Scarpati
Michael’s practice spans all major areas of intellectual property law, including patent prosecution, due diligence investigations, district court litigation involving patents, trademarks, and copyrights, and post-grant proceedings before the US Patent and Trademark Office. He obtained his Juris Doctor from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, his PhD in Molecular, Cellular & Developmental Biology from Brooklyn College, and his BS from Baruch College.
Warren Seay, Jr.
Warren works with national, regional and local commercial banks, and capital market lenders and developers on the origination and restructuring of loans for several types of commercial real estate projects, including single asset and portfolio-based construction loans, term loans, and secured credit facilities. He is also the Co-Chair of the Arent Fox Minority Attorney Group, and a member of the Firm’s Pro Bono Committee. Warren — a native of DeSoto, Texas — obtained his Juris Doctor from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law and his BA from Southern Methodist University.
Ankit Shrivastava
Ankit provides practical business advice and insight to his clients in all aspects of real estate investment and financing. His experience ranges across a wide variety of commercial transactions, including senior and mezzanine financings (both borrower- and lender-side representations), acquisitions and dispositions, leasing, development, loan restructurings, and joint ventures. Through his 10 years of experience as a transactional attorney, and prior to that as a real estate developer, Ankit has developed an informed perspective on supporting and achieving a client’s goals and objectives. He obtained his Juris Doctor from New York University School of Law and his BA from Duke University.
Hillary M. Stemple
Hillary offers service to health care providers, including hospitals and health care systems, physicians and physician practices, pharmaceutical and device manufacturers, and digital health and telemedicine companies. She obtained her Juris Doctor from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and her BS from The Pennsylvania State University.
