AFS Advises Matthew Berry’s Fantasy Life in Acquisition of Guillotine Leagues Platform
On August 12, Fantasy Life, a leading fantasy sports and sports betting media company founded by Matthew Berry, announced the acquisition of Guillotine Leagues, a fast-growing fantasy gaming platform that offers a new take on fantasy football.
A team from AFS led by Justin A. Goldberg, Steven Sung Soo Yoon, and Glenn Colton advised Fantasy Life on all aspects of the transaction, including, but not limited to, due diligence, negotiating and drafting the deal documents, solving complex regulatory issues, and drafting and negotiating employment agreements.
As part of the acquisition, Paul Charchian, founder of Guillotine Leagues, is joining Fantasy Life as Director of Guillotine Leagues. Like Fantasy Life founder Matthew Berry, Paul is a member of the Fantasy Sports & Gaming Association Hall-of-Fame. Paul is also the former president of the Association. In 2020, he developed Guillotine and has led the company through its substantial growth. This acquisition aligns with Fantasy Life’s mission to innovate in the fantasy sports industry, providing new, engaging formats for players.
AFS’s Fantasy Sports group offers a full range of services to clients in the fantasy sports industry, including providing regulatory compliance, intellectual property, privacy and cybersecurity advice as well as representing clients in financing and strategic transactions, regulatory, litigation, and investigation matters.
