Who Led the Charge for VW Settlement?
Last week, Volkswagen reached a deal with VW retailers over losses ensuing from the diesel emissions scandal and allegedly defrauding retailers by cheating on emissions tests.
Automotive practice group chair Aaron Jacoby discussed the parties at play and their effect on the deal’s outcome with Automotive News. Both a six-member VW dealer committee and a separate class-action suit were involved in the outcome.
According to Mr. Jacoby, the committee-defying class-action suit was likely key in bringing the deal about. “Rather than looking to the dealer committee that was established for the purpose to try to resolve this, it appears VW made a deal with class-action counsel,” he said, “which is typical to how class-action claims are resolved but different than what dealers were expecting.”
