Former Congressman Phil English and Former Senator Byron Dorgan Quoted in Morning Consult

The Morning Consult article “Controversial Import Tax in GOP Plan Needed as Revenue Raiser” discusses a controversial provision on imports that would be needed to offset popular corporate tax reductions that Republican lawmakers are facing in their comprehensive tax reform plans for next year.

Supporters of the import tax say that this will encourage investment in the US and prevent US companies from opening locations overseas or outsourcing employment. Former Congressman and Arent Fox Senior Government Relations Advisor Phil English says the import tax will be “a major source of revenue.” He contends that it will be a “front and center” issue next year. Former Senator and Arent Fox Senior Policy Advisor also agreed that the border adjustment would “potentially raise a fair amount of money,” but that the tax provision would prove to be “very controversial.”
