Craig Engle Wins Appeals Court Ruling in New York Mayoral Race

Earlier this week, Political Law leader Craig Engle secured a federal appeals court ruling that will allow Arent Fox’s client, The New York Progress and Protection PAC, to make independent expenditures in the upcoming election for New York City Mayor.

Mr. Engle is the Treasure of the PAC and serves as its election law counsel.

Reuters, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, New York Post, Bloomberg News, The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Crain’s and Newsday all reported on the victory and noted the decision was in-line with recent Supreme Court precedent and would have a lasting effect on New York city and state elections.

In its unanimous ruling, the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit said the PAC had shown “a substantial likelihood of success of the merits.” The three-judge panel took less than 72 hours to reverse a lower court’s decision and to issue a preliminary injunction, preventing the City and State from enforcing contribution limits on the PAC.
