Coming Sooner Than You Think: Driverless Car Arrivals Expedited
Automotive practice group chair Aaron Jacoby recently spoke with the Daily Journal about how the future of the industry has arrived, leaving courts and regulators even further behind than expected.
Driverless cars have previously been trying out roads, but Uber is now officially picking up riders in Pittsburgh for self-driving rides, although they have two backup safety drivers in the front seat.
Current draft regulations, such as those issued by the California DMV in December, demonstrate how out of touch transportation officials are with the latest from the auto tech sector. For example, Aaron noted, “studies show that the worst and most dangerous thing to occur is for humans to take over during a crisis,” though regulations are trending toward manual options.
