Carmakers Hope to Ease Car-Buying Pain with Online Transactions

Automotive Practice leader Aaron Jacoby recently spoke with the Los Angeles Times about how online auto transactions could ease the pain of buying a car if dealers and other industry players hop on board.

The business model of fixed stores is ready for disruption. A few carmakers propose the following: Take most of the transaction online, and limit consumer-dealership contact to test-driving the car at the beginning of the process and driving it home at the end. However, smart shoppers must also be realistic about their budgets and their credit scores for this to work. “People often go in trying to buy something they can’t really afford,” Aaron says.
