Arent Fox's Aaron Jacoby Quoted in Law360 on Fiat Chrysler $105M Fine
Partner and Automotive Practice Group Leader Aaron Jacoby was quoted in a recent Law360 article on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s record $105 million fine against Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.
The penalty was levied after an investigation revealed the automaker did not fix vehicle defects in a timely manner, waited too long to notify the agency of defects that warrant recalls, and did not inform affected consumers in time.
Aaron commented, “This isn’t necessarily the first signal from NHTSA, but it certainly illustrates a shift for the agency in taking a more active investigative and enforcement role. Its past history has not been as intensively geared toward enforcement, and the agency has often relied on self-policing by the industry.”
