Arent Fox Partner Peter Zeidenberg Quoted by The Chicago Tribune about Prosecution’s Case against Sen. Menendez
In particular, the article focused on the prosecution’s case, which may center on the timing of gifts that Sen. Menendez received in exchange for political favors.
The article stated that “Some of Menendez’s favors came the same day, or within days, of those gifts. In all, Menendez is accused of taking almost $1 million in campaign donations, luxury travel, opulent vacations and other gifts to further [eye surgeon Salomon] Melgen’s interests.” It added that “The senator intervened to help Melgen in a Medicare overbilling case, a contract dispute with the Dominican Republic and visa applications for three girlfriends, according to the Justice Department.”
Mr. Zeidenberg, a former federal prosecutor, explained that the timing of certain events may support or undermine any arguments by either the prosecution or defense. He said that “The closer in time these events are, the harder it is for [Sen.] Menendez to say these are completely unrelated.”
