GM cuts jobs at U.S. battery plant despite intentions to accelerate EV production

GM announced on Tuesday that it will cut 50 jobs at a lithium ion battery assembly plant in suburban Detroit.

The cuts are related to GM’s recent announcement that it will end production of the Chevrolet Volt and other hybrid vehicles early next year.  The job cuts are a curious thing for a manufacturer whose spokesman stated in a previous story published in Automotive News on Monday that GM is working to “accelerate our EV and AV development.”
