Chinese Dealers Aim to Learn From, Invest in US dealership groups

On November 29, the opening day for the LA Auto Show, LA Managing Partner Aaron Jacoby hosted a dozen executives from different Chinese automotive sector companies, including electric/battery, the Chinese “CarMax”, distributors and dealer groups in the Los Angeles office to discuss China’s car market, the US market and regulatory framework, and new markets for Chinese investment.

Chinese dealers are weathering a recession in new car unit sales, leading them to study other markets and the practices of US dealers. Certified used car sales are thought to be a future market driver in China. Aaron discussed the ways American car manufacturers set up a self-regulating used car certification process, fielding numerous questions from the Chinese guests who were perplexed by the notion of self-regulation and limited government involvement.

Automotive News published a “Retail Special Report” for its television programming that focused on Chinese car dealers’ interest in US practices. This report was filmed during the Chinese automotive executive’s visit.
