Join ArentFox Schiff Associates Mario Torrico and Maya Cohen as they speak at the Cyrus R. Vance Center for International Justice Human Rights Day 2024.
The LGBTQ+ community continues to face significant legal challenges worldwide. Despite progress in some regions, many countries still enforce and pass laws that criminalize same-sex relationships and gender expression, restrict freedom of expression, and discriminate against individuals based on their sexual orientation and gender identity. These laws not only violate fundamental human rights but also perpetuate stigma, discrimination, and violence against LGBTQ+ individuals.
The Vance Center’s Human Rights and Access to Justice Program has worked on a number of projects to highlight and provide legal support to organizations focusing on issues affecting LGBTQ+ persons, with a special focus on laws and policies that can increase inequality and discrimination against these groups. These projects range from working with a network of lawyers to secure the right to marriage equality in countries in Latin America to providing guidance on gender-affirming health care in dozens of jurisdictions around the world.
Join us to learn more about the impact and lessons drawn from these projects, and hear from panelists working on other critical areas of LGBTQ+ rights.
