On April 2, join USPTO officials and Arent Fox Partner Marylee Jenkins, Former Chair of the ABA-IPL Section and USPTO’s Patent Public Advisory Committee (PPAC), for the “Ask the USPTO: The Future of Artificial Intelligence” panel.
Marylee will serve as moderator alongside speakers Thomas A. Beach, USPTO Chief Data Strategist and Founder of the Digital Service & Big Data initiative, and Coke Morgan Stewart, USPTO Senior Policy Advisor and Acting Chief of Staff to Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of United States Patent and Trademark Office, Andrei Iancu. The USPTO has been examining AI inventions for decades and has issued guidance in many areas that necessarily relate to AI inventions. The USPTO is engaging with the innovation community and experts in AI to determine whether further guidance is needed to promote the predictability and reliability of patenting such inventions and to ensure that appropriate patent protection incentives are in place to encourage further innovation in and around this critical area as well as how AI may be implemented and affect USPTO operations and examination for its workforce and the user community.
The 2020 ABA-IPL Section Annual Meeting will take place in Washington, D.C. at the Mayflower Hotel from April 1 to April 3. This year, the section is celebrating 125 years of bringing together IP experts and professionals. In honor of this special occasion, participants will be invited to attend a commemorative gala on the evening of April 2.
