Sports Group Leader Rich Brand Discusses Fantex with Fox News
Football fans get a chance to invest in player brands.
Arent Fox Sports leader Richard L. Brand was interviewed by Fox News as part of a report on Fantex Inc., a company that allows investors to buy and sell interests in professional athletes.
Fox reported that the brand builders at Fantex are offering a unique initial public offering: While an investor does not own the player, they do own a share of the player’s brand and the more a player’s overall earnings exceeds the expectations on which the stock price was based, the more an investor will make.
“It is Wall Street combined with fantasy football,” said Mr. Brand. “People aren’t necessarily doing this to invest in a stock. It’s an investment in being a sports fan and it’s very exciting. But it’s not buying Google.”
