Laura focuses her practice on intellectual property litigation, with a particular emphasis on patent litigation. She also advises clients in trademark, trade dress, trade secret, and unfair competition matters.

Laura has litigated cases in federal courts across the US, as well as in state courts in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. She has particular experience understanding complex mechanical and manufacturing technologies, and frequently handles IP matters in the defense industry. In addition, she serves as outside general counsel to several closely held companies, in the defense and seafood industries.

Client Work

Laura’s representative matters include:

  • Represents companies in the defense industry in IP matters (including patent and trademark prosecution, licensing, and litigation)
  • Represents machine tool manufacturers in patent and trademark matters
  • Represented the prospective buyer of a patent portfolio in litigation regarding valuation and secured a jury verdict in the client’s favor
  • Represented a voice recognition company in a lawsuit with an ex-employee concerning ownership of a software patent
  • Represents trademark owners and applicants before the Trademark Trial and Appeals Board at the USPTO

Life Beyond the Law

Outside of work, Laura dedicates a substantial amount of time to community service. She has been a board member and legal counsel for the 1,600-member Charlestown Mothers Association, which supports families in that urban Boston neighborhood; has been legal counsel to a low-income tenant association; and helped establish 501(c)(3) parent associations for inner-city Boston public schools.
