Bruce has more than 30 years of experience in the intellectual property field, including serving as corporate patent counsel with a major American multinational technology company and startups. Bruce is both a patent attorney and a licensing and transactional attorney.
He prepares, prosecutes, and maintains patent and trademark portfolios for his clients and strategically advises on the legal, scientific, and business considerations when creating patent assets from their innovations. Bruce has extensive experience in licensing, technology transfer agreements, and IP due diligence relating to corporate acquisitions and IP litigation.
His areas of focus include life sciences, medical devices, medical diagnostic and imaging equipment and software, mechanical, electromechanical, and electronic technologies, computer hardware and software, networking, telecommunications, Voice Over Internet Protocol systems, multimedia systems, audio and video signal processing, and related technologies.
Prior to attending law school, Bruce earned his bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from Boston University.
Client Work
Bruce’s representative matters include:
- Developed a portfolio of patents directed to bioinductive scaffolds to reinforce soft tissue for start-up Biorez, Inc., and handled IP due diligence inquiries prior to the acquisition of Biorez, Inc. by surgical device manufacturer ConMed Corporation.
- Represented start-up iVeena Delivery Systems in the licensing of a pioneering ophthalmic drug to pharmaceutical company Glaukos, Inc.
- Developed a portfolio of patents directed to spinal cord stimulation therapy for start-up Stimgenics which was then acquired by medical device manufacturer Medtronic PLC.
- Developed a portfolio of patents directed to communications infrastructure monitoring software and handled IP due diligence inquiries prior to a substantial growth equity investment from private equity firm, Francisco Partners.
- Developed a pioneering portfolio of patents directed to Voice Over Internet Protocol communication technology for start-up NetSpeak Corportion, many of which were subsequently asserted numerous times in patent infringement proceedings and ultimately held valid and enforceable by the USPTO Patent Trial and Appeals Board and the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
